Shaw University
Shaw University, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, was founded in 1865 and holds a significant place as a historically black school, often referred to as the “mother of African-American colleges.” Though it began by training freedmen, it is now a private arts university. Concerns arise due to its meager eighteen percent graduation rate among its sixteen hundred students, including fifteen hundred undergraduates. With an annual tuition of thirty thousand dollars and an average student loan debt of twenty-eight thousand dollars, the unfortunate return on investment makes it a concerning choice.
